Americana From the Flatlands Top 10 Countdown from The Cabin – July 13th!

Something new on the Americana From the Flatlands countdown this week – it’s a Baker’s Dozen – a Top 13! Plus, we’ve got a Spotify playlist of the 13! Here’s the direct link to the Americana From the Flatlands Spotify for this week!

Who starts the Countdown off at lucky 13? Slide guitar and Neil Young sounds like a great start – Neil’s in with “Homegrown“. The album of the same name is a deep collection as Neil takes us on a ride once again!

Number 12 on the Chart is J.S. Ondara and “Lockdown On Date Night Tuesday”. Ondara pulled out guitar and paper and set about chronicling what we’ve all been dealing with in COVID 19 2020. He stands out while standing right next to us.

The Luckier You Get” by American Aquarium makes a quick pit stop at Number 11. The Lamenations album is still picking up steam and these folks love their fans as much as making great music.

How ’bout our first Debut this week? Number 10 is the latest from The Allman Betts Band – “Magnolia Road“! The video almost gives us a virtual outdoor concert 🙂 while the music lets some sweltering sunshine in the front door. Dive in!

Who’s Number 9 this week? The Dead Tongues with “Peaceful Ambassador“. Feels like that should be Ryan Gustafson’s actual job title, in my mind. The Tongues new album is Transmigration Blues with this as the first single.

We’ve got to admit we keep our “Options Open” as Kathleen Edwards re-enters the Countdown this week! Kathleen comes in at Number 8. And, we are more than pleased to have her smooth sounds echoing around the Cabin here in the Flatlands!

He seems to be on everyone’s playlist – and we’re no different. Nathaniel Rateliff pops #7 with “Time Stands“. Can’t miss this high riser wherever you turn – and with good reason. The man reaches right into your soul and appeals to your brain at the same time.

The Debut you’ve been waiting for, maybe? Number 6 is Margo Price and “Letting Me Down“. The sense of music and sense of the times is spectacular with Miss Margo – she’s classic and in a class all by herself.

Number 5 on the Americana From the Flatlands Top 13 is Courtney Marie Andrews and “It Must Be Someone Else’s Fault“. Weeping steel guitar and a sandy Southwest vocal hits this summer spin perfectly.

Number 4 is our biggest jumper this week – Ray LaMontagne and “Strong Enough“. Ray swirls into town and convinces us to join his merry band with this tune from his new album Monovision. We hope we are strong enough Ray!

Red wine and Number 3 this week for Sarah Jarosz and “Johnny“. The Countdown is just better with Sarah – in whatever combo she hits us with. It’s solo stuff right now and each effort shows us deeper into her repertoire. Thanks Sarah!

Almost to the top of the Top 13 this week for Americana From the Flatlands! Number 2 is John Craigie and “Don’t Ask“. John puts a Midwest grinding attitude into his Californian sensibility on his Asterisk the Universe album. Find it today and go deeper.

Set off the fireworks (a bit late) – Number 1 is in the house! It’s The Jayhawks and “This Forgotten Town“! We’ve loved The Jayhawks for so long and it’s special to hear them harken back and lead everyone forward. Harmonize with them all week long!

Don’t forget – we’ve introduced a Spotify playlist for the Top 13! Follow this link to the Playlist and give it a follow! We’ll update it each week! Enjoy the Flatlands, my friends!

Americana From the Flatlands Top 10 Countdown from The Cabin – July 6th!

Monday night means Americana From the Flatlands Top 10 Cabin Countdown! We give you the top Americana Songs we’ve got playing in the Cabin this week. Three new entries coming up!

First new entry to the Top 10 is at Number 10 as Neil Young brings us “Homegrown” from the album of the same name. The slide guitar slides us back in time, but Neil’s music is always contemporary.

Back to back new tunes – Ray LaMontagne has Number 9 wrestled down with “Strong Enough“. Ray seems to have the big wheel turnin’ and flexes a style reminiscent of his earlier works. Happy to hear new music from this guy!

With geographic influences from the SW US to Belgium, Courtney Marie Andrews hits Number 8 on the countdown with “It Must Be Someone Else’s Fault“. Americana Music is better with CMA hitting the charts.

Top 10 rolls into Number 7 with Ondara and “Lockdown Date Night Tuesday“. Ondara gets me wanting to hop a train to wherever when he pops in the Cabin. It’s an international view of Americana that is very valuable right about now.

Number 6 on the Cabin Countdown is The Dead Tongues and “Peaceful Ambassador“. Another debut for us this week, it’s a fuller sound for the Tongues, but still a simple purity to the tune that is quintessential Dead Tongues, right down to the harmonica!

A former top song registers at Number 5. American Aquarium and “The Luckier You Get” musters their work ethic to get us to the halfway point this week. No Depression featured BJ Barham in their last issue – hunt it down for a good read.

Up one spot this week to Number 4 is Sarah Jarosz telling us all about “Johnny“. The link below is a Mahogany Session tearing Johnny down to the bare studs. Jarosz always builds mansions with her stories and this one is no different…

We’ve sauntered up to Number 3 – John Craigie seems to be locked in at this spot again this week. “Don’t Ask” drops the organ on a strong backbeat to rattle you into the station. John highlights a new, more muscular sound with this one – and it works.

Flying the airwaves at Number 2 this week are The Jayhawks with “This Forgotten Town“. This band has made the rounds in COVID world 2020 very well and this song has driven the bus. Their XOXO album will feature more as we head into Autumn.

And who’s Number 1 on the Americana From the Flatlands Top 10? How ’bout Nathaniel Rateliff and “Time Stands“? Rateliff has crossed over into a lot of different genres with his latest. The thing is…great music will always catch ears…no matter where it’s played.

Americana From the Flatlands Top 10 Countdown from The Cabin – June 29!

Almost half way through the summer up here on the Flatlands – and our Top 10 is warming up, as well. We’ve got two new entries and a new Number 1! Enjoy!

Let’s dive into the Number 10 slot on our Cabin Countdown with Logan Ledger and “(I’m Gonna Get Over This) Some Day”. Ledger has that classic voice that goes on for days – he’d get my my vote for a new Four Horseman voice!

Americana From the Flatlands Number 9 is Kathleen Edwards and “Options Open” – we’re always open to her stellar vocals and the swooping guitar on this one takes us on a groove this week.

Our first Debut on the Top 10 comes from an artist who was in the Countdown last week and comes back with a new tune at Number 8. Marcus King Band and “Sweet Mariona” is our latest ‘love it’ tune from this talented Crescent Stater.

Number 7 this week is another Debut! Welcome in the newest from J.S. Ondara“Lockdown On Date Night Tuesday”! Song for the times from someone we consider the Kenyan Dylan – the man’s a storyteller we need (plus the video is superb).

“It Must Be Someone Else’s Fault” by Courtney Marie Andrews knocks on the Cabin door at Number 6 tonight! Seems like another song for the times, but our sense is it could apply any old time. Take it in and make it your own.

She’s one of the leaders and best in the business and Sarah Jarosz has a special tune in at Number 5. “Johnny” is features tender guitar work mixed with confident vocals – great tune from a great artist. You might just get what you paid for…

Caught our Number 4 song on CBS last Saturday as The Jayhawks lit into their latest “This Forgotten Town”. Deeply enjoy the return to some of their roots and, in turn, the roots so much of the music we enjoy was built on. Love the Old 97s T, too!

“Don’t Ask” by John Craigie rambles and struts into Number 3 again this week. It’s well documented that we groove on John’s swag and guitar – we also love the organ dive bombing thru this one. Keep John on repeat!

Change at the top this week! Number 2 on the Top 10 is American Aquarium with “The Luckier You Get”. BJ veers into a new path with this one but they never lose the spirit that has carried them in front of so many fans – another winner for this band.

Ding Ding Ding! Number 1 on the Americana From the Heartland countdown is Nathaniel Rateliff with “Time Stands”! Time Stands is a redwood in a scrub forest – towering yet comforting. Rock strong – rock on Mr. Rateliff.
